Scope and Content: This series consists of 168 interviews with members of the New Orleans Fire Deparment. The interviews are approximatly 93 percent trancribed. These interviews were gathered with the assistance of the New Orleans Fire Department's After Action Committee, and members of the committe were present for a majority of the interviews. Prior to Hurricane Katrina's landfall members of the New Orleans Fire Department were strategically staged throughought the city. The different locations from which they operated and save thousands of lives are refered to as "places of last refuge." Also included are photographs, videos, and other documentary materials which document the response of the New Orleans Fire Department.
Arrangement: Interviews within this series are arranged by place of last refuge. There under they are arranged alphabetically by interviewee. Transcripts are filed alphabetically by last name of the interviewee. Un-restricted transcripts have been physically separated, and are filed alphabetically.
