Biography/History: Incorporated in 1928, the Deutsches Haus was formed as a benevolent and social organization which evolved from the Deutsche Gesellschaft von New Orleans and several other groups intended to benefit German immigrants.
Scope and Content: The archive of the Deutsches Haus organization includes materials from preexisting nineteenth-century groups that later aligned themselves to form the Deutsches Haus. The collection includes the Deutsches Haus administrative and financial records, material related to the organization's many festivals, as well as 400 volumes from the organization's lending library, and the Deutsches Haus Musik Archiv, containing sheet music and other materials utilized by German singing societies for their programs.
