Biography/History: Captain Clarke "Doc" Hawley (b. 1935), a career river pilot and calliope player, was captain of the Delta Queen and the Natchez. He is a historian of the Mississippi & Ohio Rivers and of riverboat culture.
Scope and Content: Clarke C. Hawley was interviewed by Mark Cave for the Vieux Carré Memoir Oral History Project on January 22, 2016. Clarke, a former steamboat captain, talks about his life working on the Mississippi River, and discusses the history of steamboats. Also included in this series are photographs of Hawley, an audio segment produced by WWNO from the interview, and a video segment which combines the WWNO audio with photographs.
