Biography/History: Rene Brunet, Jr. (1921-2017) was a second-generation movie theater operator and the co-author of "There's One in Your Neighborhood: The Lost Movie Theaters of New Orleans".
Mark Cave is the curator of manuscripts and oral historian for The Historic New Orleans Collection.
The Historic New Orleans Collection (THNOC) is a museum, research center, and publisher dedicated to preserving the history and culture of New Orleans and the Gulf South. The institution was founded in 1966 by General L. Kemper Williams and Leila Moore Williams -- collectors of Louisiana materials who wished to share their holdings with the public.
Scope and Content: Rene Brunet has owned and operated numerous movie theaters in New Orleans, including the Loew's State, Famous Theater, Carver Theater, Joy Theater, Circle Theater, Clabon Theater, Gallo Theater and the Prytania Theatre. Brunet was interviewed by Mark Cave for the New Orleans Life Story Project on July 6, 11, and 23, 2012. Brunet and Cave were also photographed at the Prytania Theater by Keely Merritt on July 23, 2012.
