Object Description Newspaper illustration: "Mississippi River Quarantine Station Under the United States' Control; New Orleans' New Outlet to the Sea - The Jetty Work at Southwest Pass". Newspaper page having thirteen vignettes as follows, i-v on recto, vi-xiii on verso: (i) General view of the quarantine station; (ii) Dr. R. H. Von Ezdorf, who is in charge of the station, and Dr. de Valin, his assistant; (iii) Fumigating an ocean liner with sulfur; (iv) Disinfecting bedding and clothes; (v) Cozy home of the resident physician. Images on verso document "New Orleans' New Outlet to the Sea - The Jetty Work at Southwest Pass," and are titled as follows: (vi) Building a "mat"; (vii) Launching a "mat"; (viii) Barge load of stone with which to sink the "mat"; (ix) Stone ballasted "mat" in place to serve as foundation; (x) Huge concrete mixer at work; (xi) Swinging a mould into place; (xii) Moulds along line of new jetty, filled with concrete; (xiii) View of the completed jetty wall.
