Biography/History: Charles Rosen (1872-1957) was a New Orleans attorney who also was involved in local politics, including a disagreement with Mayor Martin Behrman over the control of the Public Belt Railroad. He served on the administrative boards of the Touro Infirmery and Tulane University for many years.
Scope and Content: Typescript copy of the self-published autobiography of prominent New Orleans attorney and civic leader Charles Rosen (1872-1957). The work covers his family background, his own early childhood in Bayou Sara, and his education in the public and private schools in West Feliciana Parish. He attended Tulane for high school and obtained a four year scholarship to study at Tulane University. He also discusses the different law firms he joined or operated solely. Rosen details his involvement with city politics, and his opposition to Mayor Martin Behrman. He specifically addresses the political attacks he launched against Behrman, including accusations that Behrman had worked with Tom Anderson to keep the Storyville district open during the First World War. He details his political support of and campaigns for Governor John M. Parker. He also addresses his public battle concerning tax policy with Edgar Farrar.
