Object Description Cartoon illustration recalling the Storyville legalized prostitution district which officially ceased operation at midnight on 12 November 1917. Shown is a detail of a city map, indicating in black shading the boundaries of the Storyville district. To the left and right of the map are two shown women dressed in fashionable period atttire.

Twenty-first in a series of 25 cartoons used to illustrate weekly series "In ..., we were here," which ran in the The States-Item from January to June 1977. Produced in conjunction with the newspaper's centennial, the series highlighted some of the unusual news stories the paper had covered since its origin as the Daily City Item and the Daily States. John Wilds wrote each of the weekly features, while John Churchill Chase created the accompanying cartoon illustrations.
