Biography/History: Mark Cave is the curator of manuscripts and oral historian for The Historic New Orleans Collection.
Scope and Content: Roulhac B. Toledano, was interviewed by Mark Cave on April 27, 2016 for the New Orleans Life Story Project. Toledano discusses her early life in Mobile, Alabama, school life in Stamford, Texas, and time at Newcomb College working with Ida Kohlmeyer. She briefly touches on artist Mark Rothko’s time there and working with art historian Alfred Moir. Toledano speaks a great deal about her family history and the histories of the places she’s lived and visited. She explains how she got involved with historic preservation and discusses her authorship of several architectural books. She talks at length about her friendship with Mary Lou Christovich, meeting Kemper and Leila Williams, assisting her husband’s political career, and her life in Charlottesville, Virginia. The interview contains many personal anecdotes about her life in various places.
