One of the preeminent blues and rock íní roll guitarists of the twentieth century, Jimi Hendrix (1942-1970) was influenced by the R&B sound emanating from New Orleans in the late 1940s and í50s. He covered Guitar Slimís hit "The Things That I Used to Do," originally recorded at Cosimo Matassaís J&M Studio in New Orleans and arranged by Ray Charles, as well as New Orleans guitar player Earl Kingís "Come On (Part 1)," which he included on his Electric Ladyland album. Nevertheless, Hendrix performed only once in New Orleans during his brief career. On August 1, 1968, he and his band, the Jimi Hendrix Experience, played at Tad Gormley Stadium, in City Park.
